A fundraiser for Venice Community Housing, the curated peek at architecture, art and design in L.A. is set to take place during consecutive weekends in April and May. "Attendees will find a wide variety of choices in the Venice Design Series," says community leader Linda Lucks, who co-founded VDS with landscape designer Jay Griffith. "Within each event, there's an opportunity to experience an array of old and new architecture, evolving communities, a new stadium in Inglewood months before it opens, and a performance by one of L.A.'s musical treasures, Randy Newman, composer of I Love L.A. and all the music on the Toy Story movie franchise. "e theme is always to feature the best in architecture, art, design, while drawing our guests' attention [to] the dire need for affordable housing in every community, and presenting examples of what affordable housing looks like," she adds. Guests can expect five site-specific events— each presenting a blend of architecture, cuisine, design, art and performance—in the West- side communities of Venice, Brentwood and Inglewood. Among the highlights: a trip to Inglewood for a look at a trio of pre-World War II Rudolph Schindler-designed homes, plus an architect-led tour of the soon-to-open SoFi Stadium; a Brentwood tour showcasing the architectural and landscape work of Fred- erick Fisher, Frank Gehry, A. Quincy Jones, Marmol Radziner, Cassy Aoyagi and Jay Grif- fith; and a curated artist studio tour led by art collector/consultant Cecilia Dan and art collector Marla Michaels. A main feature of this year's event is the special dinner and music performance by Randy Newman; and rounding out the Series is an art and design tour of some of Venice's land- mark architecture, affordable housing, public art and landscape design, with featured archi- tects including Brooks + Scarpa, Steven Ehrlich, Zack Freedman, David Randall Hertz, Minarc, Eric Owen Moss, Lenny Steinberg, Charles Ward, and the team of Tatiana Barhar and Carlos Zubieta.
