24 DIGS.NET | 4.17.2020 These are unprecedented and uncertain times we're living in to say the least. How do you deal with the unknown? Framing can help. Your mental frame affects and controls your mindset – and mindset is everything. In the research study "Rethinking Stress: The Role of Mindsets in Determining the Stress Response," a "mindset" is defined as "a mental frame or lens that selectively organizes and encodes information, thereby orienting an individual toward a unique way of understanding an experience and guiding one toward corresponding actions and responses." Your mindset is the lens through which you perceive the world. Change your mindset, change your perception, change your life. On a personal level, framing is helping me with controlling the uncontrollable and dealing with the uncertainty of the moment. Uncertainty is where fear, anxiety, panic, and stress live. What I am finding useful is thinking about the framing of the situation so that I can deal with it better. FRAMING. P U B L I S H E R ' S M U S E Warren J Dow Publisher wdow@Southbaydigs.com Here are some frames that you might find beneficial in your own unique way: Learning – what can I learn from this challenge? Gratitude – recognize and be grateful for all that you already have. Empathy – health & wellness is life's great equalizer, we're all in this together. The ability to navigate uncertainty resides in all of us – embrace it, work on it, take control of it, you'll feel better and empowered no matter what lies ahead. "What lies behind us, and what lies before us are tiny matters, compared to what lies within us." – Ralph Waldo Emerson Finding perspective in the chaos. The worst thing to do in a time of chaos is add to it. You've heard the cliché "attitude is everything." I would say that perspective is everything, and attitude is a byproduct of ones' perspective. Perspectives are powerful. Choose wisely. The priorities and what we deemed important and pressing in January / February 2020 surely have changed. The COVID-19 pandemic has a silver lining – it too shall pass, and perhaps change our perspectives for the better forever. Embrace the fear and challenges ahead and use it to fuel a better tomorrow – it's out there! Cherish the day, stay positive, and stay strong. Until next time ~ WHAT LIES BEHIND US, AND WHAT LIES BEFORE US ARE TINY MATTERS, COMPARED TO WHAT LIES WITHIN US. – RALPH WALDO EMERSON
