harmony with its natural surroundings.

In Washington State, the San Juan Islands—90 miles north of Seattle—are well worth a visit. For some city dwellers, the
islands have become a refuge where one can leave the pace of urban living behind for a weekend or longer. Taken with
the peaceful environment and natural beauty of Orcas Island—named for its orca whales—a young family of four was
determined to create their vacation retreat there, on a rocky, wind-swept, south facing shoreline.
