he story of Crystal Chen is one of determina-
tion that's so unflagging you realize it's just part
of her nature. Born in China, Crystal's first
entry into the world of work was as a teacher. Realizing
this wasn't her calling, she quickly shifted gears. "I knew
I needed to do something else," Crystal answers simply
when asked if she hesitated to make a change. For her,
achievement is all about the doing, particularly when
there's a goal in sight.
A 15-year career in sales and business followed, along
with a mid-1990s move to the United States. Here,
Crystal dove into a management career at MetLife—
until a friend urged her to consider real estate. In 2002,
drawn to the prospect of designing her destiny by her own
hands, the entrepreneurial Crystal began her real estate
career. "I came to America in my thirties," she reflects.
"I had to be strong to keep the lifestyle I was used to,
and to give my young son an even better life than I had."
