he gently curving shoreline
of Broad Beach is a vision that
always beckons. So too does the
sight of its palm trees bathed in
golden Pacific Ocean light, and
the rhythm of cascading waves folding into
sandy shores. Victoria Point Road, a gated
lane located directly off of Broad Beach Road,
is an ideal spot to luxuriate in the splendor
of one of Malibu's finest beaches. "It's a very
nice community," real estate agent Heather
Bell says of this cozy neighborhood of mellow
streets lined with tidy, colorful landscaping.
"It's beautiful, private and very secure." By way
of Hollywood history, it's also the street where
Steve McQueen once lived.
At 31558 Victoria Point Road, a dense
wood gate and lush gardens usher you further
into a solo realm of nature and tranquility.
Open the front door and a shock of blue greets
you—along with vistas of ocean, sky and moun-
tains. And great design. The approximately
4,200-square-foot sun-splashed Malibu haven
is the result of a recent $3 million overhaul by
award-winning local design build firm, Busch
Design Build. "The homeowners took it down
to the studs," says the agent. "They completely
redid everything, and did a beautiful job." The
project transformed the 4 bedroom, 4.5-bath
residence into an elegant hideaway dressed in
luxurious materials—from onyx countertops
to elegant flooring from bespoke tile house
Mission Tile West.
At its center is an open-plan living room
and dining room that merge with the outdoors
via oversized slider doors and picture windows.
"It's just a couple of houses away from being
on the sand," notes Bell of the location. The
advantage is that you are immersed in this
exquisite natural setting, complete with soft
Pacific breezes, while enjoying an elevated
position above the beach—which the designers
used to full advantage throughout the floorplan.
The interchange of indoor and outdoor
spaces is a hallmark of the home. The main
balcony is an everyday living space where you
can lounge and dine over wide-screen panora-
mas of sea and sky. First dawn is enjoyed from
the comfort of the king-size primary suite,
which occupies its own wing on the main floor.
From here, you can step onto a balcony to savor
the morning light and air. Or enjoy coffee amid
views of green mountains on another open-air
space; this one adjacent to a spa bathroom
decked in a well-textured mix of grainy wood
and glossy stone. For those who desire single-
floor living, the floorplan has main public
spaces, along with its primary suite and a bright
office, on the entry floor. "It's just a beautifully
turnkey, easy living house," describes Bell.
