Laid-back Luxury Comes to the Riviera in This Exquisitely Finished Redondo Beach Residence With Vast Ocean Views That Epitomizes Elevated Coastal Living

Overlooking the shimmering Pacific in the Upper Riviera, 406 Via Mesa Grande is a Spanish-inspired jaw-dropper. From its overhauled interior highlighting airy, flowing living spaces with impeccable custom detail, to its beautifully tiered backyard and panoramic ocean views, the residence is a sublime expression of California coastal living.

The hand behind 406 Via Mesa Grande’s overhaul is Gabriel Miller, an artist, designer, and all-around tastemaker whose latest vision—and revision—is one of a series of exceptional residential transformations he has completed in the area. Like his other projects, Gabriel Miller applied his fine eye and personal attention to the task.

“It’s never a job for me,” he says of renovating houses with scrupulousness, skill, and style to create inviting spaces with meticulous attention to detail. “It’s always a passion project.”

To that end, this 3,000-square-foot, 4-bedroom, 4-bath Spanish retreat is exquisitely and intuitively designed by Gabriel Miller. The two-story house has a high-tone, low-key feel. He describes it as “California cool luxury” drawn from warm neutral hues, natural textures, and classic Spanish motifs. From the wide-plank bleached white oak flooring to new custom iron glass doors throughout, the result, Gabriel Miller says, is something akin to “Spanish drama rises in the Riviera.”

Agent Rachel Ezra agrees. “Gabriel does it again,” she says. “Imagine expansive views that stretch endlessly, where Spanish Montecito elegance meets Tulum’s raw natural allure. This is warm, laid-back luxury, the kind that draws you in—serene, soul-soothing, undeniably captivating. Iron arched doors frame the ocean views like a painting. Sunrise lingering, sunset flirting. Every moment in this home feels intentional, unbrushed, intimate.”

406 Via Mesa Grande presents as unambiguously Spanish, but through a contemporary lens. Its creamy-white “dune-colored” façade is accented in black-trimmed windows. The garage door is warm Beachwood. The rounded entrance is reimagined with a custom iron glass door and hand-painted Portuguese tile border. Inside, the now open and exposed rotunda is radiant with natural sunlight along with a candelabra chandelier. This highlights the home’s fully reconfigured ground floor.

As the province of 406 Via Mesa Grande’s private spaces, the ground level gives way to the polished and well-appointed primary suite. It features a custom iron Dutch door that opens to a private pavered patio revealing gentle ocean views. This spot is perfect for indulging a morning espresso, a glass of wine, or just a moment’s peace. Functionally, the large walk-in closet with ample storage is the perfect prelude to the sumptuous, hand-troweled micro-cement master bath. It is a jewel of a space with modern spa hallmarks: a floating tub, a fully enclosed grand shower, and a bidet toilet. This is in addition to a floating double vanity made in chocolate espresso-stained reeded wood with a lustrous marble countertop and brushed gold fixtures.

“It feels very Cabo San Lucas, very Tulum,” says Gabriel Miller.

Ground level also houses a second master-sized bedroom with an ensuite bath. This bath gleams in Zellige tiles and marble penny floors. Rounding out this floor is a laundry area, two additional bedrooms, another finely finished bath, and a downstairs living space (or home office, if desired). This space has a built-in beverage area and custom iron French doors that open to the tiered backyard.

Ideal for guests or older parents, “It’s a private cozy suite where you can retreat and relax with everything you need,” says Gabriel Miller.

A sublime Mediterranean oasis marked by natural grass, pavers, pea gravel and a low-maintenance landscape of Birds of Paradise, banana plants, and succulents, the backyard is a drama in three levels: The first tier supports alfresco fun with a lawn, a grand stone firepit, and a patio for relaxed outdoor dining. The second tier introduces a splendid Spanish fountain and ocean views. The third tier offers a nice sitting area with additional scenes of the Pacific, from Catalina to Malibu. Each elevation is a small splendor.

The view is at its most soaring, however, on the second floor of the house—a multifunctional space zoned for the breathtaking chef’s kitchen, a dining/bar area, and the great room beyond. The imposing 9-foot rounded iron glass doors dissolve the division between indoors and out. They open the entire space to the ocean-facing balcony with custom railing and hand-painted Portuguese tile.

“It’s just a mic drop moment,” Gabriel Miller says of the instant you turn left at the top of the stairs. There, you are enveloped by the spectacular, unobstructed expanse spanning the entire second level. “You can see the shore break, the Strand, the Hollywood sign, the city of Los Angeles—it’s incredible.”

Maximizing this asset, Gabriel Miller altered the balcony to wrap around and connect to a second set of double doors to use as a side service when entertaining.

On these occasions, the showcase kitchen is a dream. “Where do I start?” Gabriel Miller muses on this two-toned space, lavished in Taj Mahal porcelain. It features custom wood shelving and skinny shaker cabinetry in both a cappuccino stain and a soft seafoam white with brushed gold and black hardware. The massive waterfall kitchen island, meanwhile, is of Architectural Digest-quality. It offers multiple seating for a magnanimous gathering, while woven pendants from Tulum lend a warm Spanish rusticity. These complement the sleek designer refinements, from a stainless-steel hood to topline appliances from Thermador and Bosch.

With everything new and of premium quality, along with its proximity to the beach and Riviera Village, 406 Via Mesa Grande is a home of many moments.

“That’s how I design and build all my houses,” Gabriel Miller says. But even he concedes, “This one really is special.”
