Their requirements: It had to be in a specific four-block area, with no power lines and on the east side of the street for maximum clearance views.

As for their vision when designing the home, the couple strived for the antithesis of many local home designs. “So often, they are done with five bedroom en-suites, many of which sit unused, simply to maximize a builder’s profit, and the same watery beach decor theme,” says Bonnie MacLeod, who crafted the residence from the ground up in 2014 in collaboration with architect Jeff Dahl, and her husband and designer, David Brunner.
“We wanted our design to incorporate a mix of things we like, things that are unexpected, and space for our art (we have an extensive collection of works by John Lennon), and wanted its quiet and understated presence to unfold as you move throughout the home.
“We focused on polished surfaces to reflect the view and bright sky, and to allow for transparency throughout the home,” Bonnie MacLeod adds.
“My husband is from the Midwest, and he requested that I build him a quintessential modern glass beach house; he is in love with the result.”
